Exploring the Magic of Carnival 2024 in Sitges: Colors and costumes in a great party!
This February, discover Sitges, a charming village in the Catalan coast, 45 minutes by direct train from our hotel, which is preparing to receive an explosion of joy, color and tradition with the arrival of the Carnivals the week of the 8th to the 14th of February.
This destination, known for its golden beaches and architecture, is transformed into a happy and creative setting for the Carnival festivity, but this is not just any carnival... Along with the Canary Islands and Cádiz, the Sitges Carnival is one of the most emblematic of Spain. And with more than a hundred years of history!
The float parade: A spectacle of creativity and elegance
Among all the activities scheduled during Carnival week, on Sunday, February 11, the most expected day arrives: La Rua de la Disbauxa. A parade in which more than 50 floats and thousands of costumed people participate through the streets of the village. It is considered the largest carnival parade in Catalonia, with more than 3,000 participants: Color, music, good atmosphere, costumes and fun guaranteed!
Local collas (groups) prepare ostentatious feather and sequin costumes in the purest Sambódromo style, however, visitors are allowed to dress up in slightly less splendid outfits. Of course, it is essential to bring a lot of desire for fun. As the motto of these festivities says, Per Carnaval tot s'hi val!, which translated into Spanish would be: Anything goes at Carnivals!
The Rua de la Disbauxa begins at 7:30 p.m. from the end of Avenida Sofía, closing its route at Cap de la Vila. Once this parade is over, the party continues at the Casino Prado Suburense (Festa de la Disbauxa) until 5 in the morning.
Rua de l'Extermini: the peak moment
The most delirious episode of the entire carnival is reserved for Tuesday night with the Rua de l'Extermini, the event with the largest crowd of visitors and the most famous of the festivities, along with the parade of floats. An unmissable event for those who want to experience the carnival at its peak.
Parties and events in the most emblematic venues of Sitges
The festive energy overflows in the bars, restaurants and clubs of Sitges during Carnival. All the town's clubs join in the fun by organizing themed parties, costume contests and special events.
